Shakespeare in the Park

The Mercer Island Arts Council and Mercer Island Parks & Recreation have partnered with Seattle Shakespeare Company/Wooden O since 1994 to bring quality outdoor theater to Mercer Island. Find a spot in our open seating amphitheater at Luther Burbank Park, and watch William Shakespeare's stories come to life in their originally intended setting.

2019 Season

Shakespeare in the Park_Promo Still_1
Prepare for exciting summer season of Shakespeare in the Park at Luther Burbank Amphitheater!

Seattle Shakespeare Company/Wooden O returns to Luther Burbank Park for its 26th year of outdoor theater this summer. Join us for productions of two of Shakespeare's most recognizable plays – Romeo and Juliet and Twelfth Night. All performances begin at 7 pm, with a special "doubleheader" performance on Sunday, August 11.

Twelfth Night | July 11-13 & 18-20; August 8 & 11*
Directed by Mary Machala

Why do fools fall in love?
One of Shakespeare's greatest comedies, Twelfth Night brims with a lust for life and a longing for love. The intrepid heroine Viola matches wits with vivid and captivating characters who keep sidesplitting antics rolling.

Romeo and Juliet | July 14, 21 & 25-27; August 1-4 & 9-11*
Directed by Leah Adcock-Starr

A star-crossed classic.
The cultural influence of the world's most enduring love story can't be denied. The story of two love-struck teenagers resonates with both young and old viewers. Everyone should experience Romeo and Juliet at least once in their lifetime; what better opportunity than on a summer evening in the park.

*Please note: The season concludes with a special "doubleheader" performance on Sunday, August 11. Wooden O will perform Romeo and Juliet at 2 pm followed by Twelfth Night at 7 pm.
