Green Ribbon Commission

What was the Green Ribbon Commission?
GRC Gathering

The Mercer Island Green Ribbon Commission (GRC) was formed in December 2008 by community members, City staff, Councilmembers, members of IslandVision, the faith community and other local organizations.

For five years the group worked on developing innovative ways to educate the community in order to encourage sustainable behaviors that lead to reductions in individual and community carbon footprints.

Initially the Green Ribbon Commission focused on transportation and home energy usage.

The GRC last met in December 2013, and informally dissolved in 2014, although many individuals continue to engage with the City on sustainability issues. In early 2013, the City also hired a full-time staff position to lead City sustainability efforts.
