Recology Update and Collection of Abandoned Republic Carts

Oct 18, 2019 - Now in its third week of regular service on Mercer Island, Recology is working on fine-tuning normal operations and adjusting routes with unusual pick-up locations. Although most larger roads and arterials are now clear of old Republic carts, a number of hotspot locations remain, often on smaller streets or in narrow cul-de-sacs.
As of October 1, the contract with the collection company working for Republic Services expired, ultimately leaving many old carts abandoned in locations with more difficult access.
To resolve this situation as quickly as possible, starting on October 2 Recology assumed responsibility for all remaining Republic carts, and immediately deployed 4 trucks and 8 staff that are systematically roving each quadrant of the Island, Monday-Saturday. These crews are dedicated solely to collecting old Republic carts as quickly as possible, at a rate of approximately 500/day. To help expedite this process, Recology asks residents to please leave these old carts out for at least one more week.
Some residents also have a new unneeded cart that they wish to send back to Recology please label these to make your situation clear to the cart collection crews.
If you wish to alert Recology to an ongoing problem with remaining carts, please submit an Email to:
Thank you for your patience during the final phases of this major adjustment!
