Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Issued for Part of East Mercer Way

June 12, 2019 - (Noon) Authorized construction work today caused localized low pressure in the drinking water system affecting approximately 116 homes between 4700 block and 5400 block of East Mercer Way.

Although the possibility of contamination is considered very unlikely, in an abundance of caution the City of Mercer Island is issuing a “boil water advisory” for the affected neighborhood. See map.

It is expected that normal water pressure may be resumed by early evening tonight (June 12). However, the City advises that for the next 48 hours residents in the affected area boil water prior to any consumption.

When repairs are complete, the system will be flushed and water quality samples taken to ensure the water is ready for consumption.  Residents will then be notified that the boil water advisory has been lifted.

In these situations, the City uses a combination of doortags, direct in-person contact, automated phonecalls, news releases, and social media outlets to alert affected residents as swiftly as possible.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice.
