At approximately 10:00 AM, Public Works was notified that a City construction project caused localized low pressure in the water system between SE 40th Street and SE 36th Street and between 88th Avenue SE and 90th Avenue SE.  This is impacting approximately 105 homes in this neighborhood.
In an abundance of caution the City of Mercer Island issued a boil water advisory for the residences that were impacted (see map). THESE RESIDENCES ARE THE ONLY HOMES IMPACTED.  They have been notified directly with flyers posted on the residences, direct contact, and by text, phone, and/or email through the City’s emergency notification system.
The advice of the City is for those residences who were notified, for the next 48 hours, to boil their water prior to consumption.  Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice.
When the repair of the water main breakage is complete, the system will be flushed, and water quality samples taken to ensure the water is ready for consumption.  The City will notify those impacted in the same way when the boil water advisory has been lifted.
For more information: Customers with questions should call Mercer Island Public Works at (206) 275-7608.
