2018 Citizen Satisfaction Survey Results

July 3, 2018 - Since 2004, the City has conducted a biennial citizen survey to track customer satisfaction with City services, to identify citizen priorities, and to gather input on significant community issues.

The 2018 survey was conducted this April/May by mail to randomly selected households with a goal of 400 responses in order to achieve robust statistical significance. In total, 711 surveys were completed, leading to a margin of error of just 3.7%. A summary was recently presented to the City Council, including some very positive highlights listed below:

95% of the residents surveyed indicated they were "very satisfied" or "satisfied" with Mercer Island as a place to live - this figure is 25% higher than the national average.

94% of those surveyed indicated they were "very satisfied" or "satisfied" with the overall feeling of safety in the City - also 25% higher than the national average.

The survey found that 79% of residents are satisfied with the overall quality of City services (only 5% are dissatisfied). Compared to other cities, Mercer Island rates 36% above the Northwest regional average, 32% above the average for similarly sized communities, and 30% above the U.S. average in the overall quality of services provided by the City.
