Mayor Proclaims February African American History Month

Feb 8, 2018 - ​At this week’s Council meeting, Mayor Debbie Bertlin formally proclaimed February as African American History Month in the City of Mercer Island, urging all citizens to celebrate their diverse heritage and culture and continue efforts to create a world that is more just, peaceful, and prosperous for all.

During this month, the City celebrates the many achievements and contributions made by African Americans to our economic, cultural, spiritual, and political development, noting that this month serves as a reminder of the need for meaningful dialogue and shared commitment to collective action that uplifts and empowers.

The Mayor presented the Proclamation to Reverend Wayne Perryman, a Mercer Island resident and minister active in regional equality and discrimination issues.
