Update on September 1, 2017 Vehicular Homicide

Dec 19, 2017 - ​As previously reported, on September 1, 2017 at approximately 6:45 am, a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Brian Mark Shields of Issaquah Washington, rear-ended Solomon Johnsonís vehicle at an extremely high rate of speed near West Mercer Way and I-90. Johnson died of his injuries at the scene. Shields attempted to flee from the scene, but was taken into custody by Mercer Island Police Officers and found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision; he was booked into King County Jail on the charge of Vehicular Homicide.

The collision investigation was handed over to Washington State Patrol (WSP). Mercer Island Detectives worked alongside WSP and the case was referred to the King County Prosecutors Office. On November 30, 2017, Shields pleaded guilty to Vehicular Homicide and on December 15, 2017 Shields was sentenced to 136 months in prison.
