Mercer Island Receives Recycling Award

Blue Planet Recycling Award
May 19, 2015 - Earlier this May, Republic Services, the City's curbside waste and recycling hauler, presented the Blue Planet Award to the City of Mercer Island for achievements in recycling and composting across the community. A representative from Republic delivered the award to the City Council at its May 4 meeting.

Based on 2014 data, the residents of Mercer Island divert 65 percent of recyclable or compostable items away from the landfill. This includes traditional recyclable items such as cans, bottles, and jugs, as well as yard waste and organic food items.

Achieving this 65 percent rate puts Mercer Island in a four-way tie for first place across the region, along with the cities of Bellevue, Kirkland, and Lake Forest Park; click here to see the 2014 totals.
