Benson Wong was elected onto the Mercer Island City Council in November 2013 and re-elected in November 2017. He was elected by the City Council to serve as Mayor for 2020-2021.
Benson was born and raised in Seattle and moved to Mercer Island in 1984. He has an undergraduate degree from Yale University and a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a senior partner at the Seattle law firm of Keller Rohrback L.L.P. His areas of practice focus upon business law and real estate law.
Benson has served on the boards of the Mercer Island Schools Foundation and Mercer Island Community Fund. He has also served several years on the boards of the Washington State Public Stadium Authority (the public part of the public private partnership that designed, constructed and continues to operate CenturyLink Field (home of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders) and the Washington Public Affairs Network (aka TVW).
Benson and his wife Terry Mark have two adult children, Trevor and Brittney, who both graduated from Mercer Island High School after attending Islander Middle School and Lakeridge Elementary School. Trevor is married to another MIHS graduate, Leeching. They live on the Island with their two small children, Wesley and Eleanor. Brittney is married and she and her husband, Rich, live in Toronto, Ontario.
