Deb worked for the City of Mercer Island in 2013 as Deputy City Clerk and rejoined the Mercer Island team in June 2018 as City Clerk. Deb began her municipal career in 1999 and has served two eastern Washington cities. She believes that local governmental services are improved by supporting the professional and education standards of municipal, county, and transit board clerks. To that end, she is very involved in the Washington Municipal Clerks Association and serves on both the fundraising and conference planning committees.
Deb is extremely dedicated to the communities she lives and works in. She has organized countless community events and fundraisers, including the Annual Community Awards Banquet, Cinco de Mayo Festival, and the longest running Lighted Farm Implement Parade, now in its 30th year. As a Rotarian, Deb has helped organize Rotary fundraisers and programs aimed at serving the local community and she and her husband have opened their home to Rotary Youth Exchange Students from Turkey and Thailand. She looks forward to volunteering for Mercer Islandís annual Summer Celebration.
In addition to her college coursework, Deb has attained the Certified Municipal Clerk (2011) and Master Municipal Clerk (2018) professional designations from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. Each of these certifications require over 120 hours of extensive and rigorous in-classroom instruction and many years of service and volunteer hours. These education and professional contribution components have prepared Deb for the complex role of the Municipal Clerk by providing her with quality education in partnership with institutions of higher learning, as well as State, Provincial, and National Associations.
